I thought I had a v4 b/c of the serial being U5.... I didn't check the SCPH. My SCPH is 39001. This means that my ps2 is a v7 right? If so, should I change the laser since this laser is supposed to be pretty good? I don't really want to buy a whole new system cuz of the modchip and also the mod that I had done to it (Blinking PS2 light
).
Warlock: Thanks for the link. I was considering sending my ps2 to newagepsx (they installed my mod and chip), but now I can consider sending it to the other guy. What do you think?

Now I figured out my ps2 will work when I leave the cover off
. Otherwise if I put it on the ps2 won't read the discs...... Also every so often I need to tinker with the laser cover thing (Black cover that says Sony on the laser). Also I play with the screw next to it that lifts the laser up and down. In what way would changing the height affect the read, will raising it increase the laser's intensity or whatever and lowering it decreases? This is still a laser problem though right? Thanks!
