There is no protection on the newer games.
If you've got the old neo 2.2 chip and have to swap your games using gameshark/action replay then sack the whole thing off as little/no people use this method....the neo 2.2 pumps a nice 5v through a 3.3v capicitor so within time it DOES kill your laser.
Personally it wouldn't be worth getting a new modchip in your machine. The best thing to do would be to sell her on (Ebay etc) and buy yourself a premodded console. Depending on where u r in the world there's enough people on this board to point you to your local 'chipper'
