I bet ur friend doesn't want to chip his console cus of all the myths around, tats why a load of my mates dont want to chip theirs. They say they hear things like "It breaks ps2", "ps2 breaks within a week" etc. This is usally because of a bad install/bad media (really bad) or an experiment e.g. first time someone chipped the v10 etc.
