Very possible but for what reason would this be done is the real question. It may also be the answer to why it is giving you trouble with the install in the first place. There may be unforeseen damage that is causing the chip not to work. It could be minor and then again maybe there is a whole can of worms about to be openned here. I would suggest maybe selling it on ebay or to someone else who dont want a mod chip and buying a different console like a v7 if you can find one and modding it instead. There is definitely a very good reason for switching the case like that, and it cant be a good one either. It might save you/him alot of problems and wasted time.
