I'd just like to let you know that you can purchase a Dual layer DVD writer (LiteOn SOHW-832S) for around $85 US, if you are from Canada (approx. $110 CDN). It is an excellent DVD writer, I own one myself. This writer will let you burn full length movies uncompressed 1:1. Although you will need some software to do this.
Now, what the other reply was talknig about, a pressed silver disk, I think that they meant that it is a dual layer (DVD9 or DVD DL disk, different names but same disk) disk. These disks allow you to fit up to 8.5GB of data onto one disk. Although they are expensive right now at about $15 per disk.
The program I use to back up my DVD's is 1Click DVD Copy, you can get a trial version from their website, but don't install it until you get your DVD burner since it is only a 10 day trial. Now about the CSS copy protection, you can use DVD43 (free one, don't be fooled into paying for it, it is freeware)
Here are some of the websites you can get this stuff from:
For the DVD DL Burner
HTML Code:
http://www.buy.com
For the trial software of 1Click DVD Copy
HTML Code:
http://www.download.com/3000-7970-10251829.html
for the DVDcopy protection bypass
HTML Code:
http://www.dvd43.com/
Now, remember that you should only backup DVD's that you own for your own personal use. Otherwise you are breaking the law.
Had to put in the above comment.
