I know you mentioned it is brand new but if you have any type of scratches or smudges it would cause it to quit on ya like that. If this is the case and you have access to an electric car buffer, put a small dab of either car polish or toothpaste on it and giver a buff. It will resurface the original and get rid of any scratches if there is any. This method is alot cheaper than going out and buying a disk doctor, and has been tested with great results.
Just an ole trick of the trade! It does work very well.

Not sure if this your error prob though. You could also be running into and over burn error which DVD Shrink would solve, if thats the case.

Another senario would be maybe the original is decrypted and wont let you finish in that regard. DVD Decrypter will help in that area.

Another program you could try is AnyDVD but I dont have any experience with that one. I have seen it referred to on here before though.
