Most ModChips are programmed on the 12C508 (8 pin) microcontroller however it became apparent during the development of NEO4 that this type of architecture wasn't going to be sufficient in both speed and capacity to handle the data required to enable direct booting of PS2 and PS copies . The NEO4 PlayStation ModChip is a fully assembled printed circuit board comprising of 3 microchips plus various surface mount components giving the ModChip a clean wafer thin design which fits inside each and every model without compromising any future functions of the PS2. This module design will also greatly reduce the difficulty of any future upgrades.
Currently NEO4 consists of 33 wires although work is underway to reduce this number to approximately 28 wires. As with all ModChip installations it is highly recommended that the installer has previous electronic soldering experience. In the case of the NEO4 mod chip we would recommend installation by persons confident with soldering to a large number of fine components.
the whole thing sounds pretty cool to me but its a bit pricey, $77!
