I would like to say that for $69 you cant go wrong, especially for an 8x dvd burner but keep in mind that you generally get what you pay for. I personally use a Sony Dru500A and am quite happy with it, even though its getting to be old school. It still ranges in price around $95 to $130.
As for a burner twice as fast for half the money, use your best judgement. NEC doesnt have a horable review but it has been said that they wear out faster. (laser issues)
Not sure how true this is however cause due to that fact, I have steered clear of uninvited problems. Stick to the top brands for best results, even if you have to put off a purchase for a few extra weeks. Good media plays a very important role as well. Ritek is tops!
