Yeah you’re right you can flash the SX chip on the magic 3.1 with new code or even the magicICE code. But you have to ask you’re self, is it worth it? I mean fist off your going to have to purchase a SX Key just to program it, or make one him self but if he cant even figure out what’s wrong with the chip now I would say building a SX programmer is out of the question. Also the SX Keys aren’t cheap, last time I priced them they where like $50-$80. Then on top of that he will have to rig up a way to hook up the SX Key to the magic 3.1. This isn’t something that the average gamer needs to be bothered with. Just upgrade to a better chip.

What zanna86 has suggested is all very feasible but only really practicable if your a hard core modder.

It sounds like the problem is for sure an install issue. If you didn’t do the install yourself take it back to your installer and show him your problem.
