lufcfan - you convinced me...i did the homework and found that it would be more expensive to get a new PS2 (v9 or v10) and getting it modchiped and doing the romero mod would cost more than replacing the chip.
Another plus is that everyone here says that the v7 is ultra relaible. I'll now have save the cash to get a new chip, network adapter, HDD and find someone that's selling HD Loader in Australia (the price converted from GBP is around about $75AUD which includes shipping)
