Well that model number could be anything from a V1-V4. Have a look at my site, there is a PS2 version identification page that will help you determine what it is, and yes all V1-V4 PS2's came from Sony with crappy lasers. You might be able to get Sony to repair it for free (since they did have a class action lawsuit concerning their crappy lasers) if you contact them directly. But in the end your still going to have a crappy laser even if they do replace it with a new one (which they may not, they may just clean and adjust it) its still going to be KHS-400B laser that will burn out on you again. But it will at least give you another year or maybe 2 depending on how often you use it and the quality of the media you use.

The newest version of the PS2 is the V9/V10 and it’s having its own unique issues.

You may in the long run just be better off purchasing a new PS2.
