I disagree with him... certainly there's no need to burn at the
slowest speed - just a
moderate one, that is, not the highest one. You already saw for yourself that 48x was too fast but 32x worked just fine. As a rule of thumb, I recommend just a few notches below your drive's maximum recording speed. Generally, 16x - 24x is absolutely safe.
But 1x? Hah, gimme a break
