With out a mod chip you wouldn’t be able to play PAL games at all on your NTSC machine. With the mod chip in you will be able to play a PAL game on your NTSC console but if your TV doesn’t support the PAL format then it won’t display correctly, the screen will roll as if the v-hold is out of adjustment. There are TV’s that support both formats but are seldom found in the US. You can always look for a patch (
http://ps2chimps.ps2newz.net ) to fix the PAl game to display correctly on your NTSC setup, but some times the patches fail. Last you could buy and expensive converter that goes inline in between the PS2 and the TV to convert the signal from PAL to NTSC but look at spending $100 or more on one. It’s best to just back-up with in your own region if you can.
