Are you positive it’s a crossover cable? If you look at the back of your XBox with the cable plugged into both your XBox and your PC the little LEDs above the NIC should be lit. You may also see a little Network icon in your task bar.

If you see these the link is there. You have to be sure your network IP are not conflicting also. On my home network my XBox is 192.168.2.100 and my PC is 192.168.2.40.

Also you have to be sure your putting in the right username and password into your FTP program is right. Should be xbox:xbox and makes sure your connect port is 21.
