I had the very same problem like u the first time i installed the game, and started it using the crack.
The game was starting, and u could make a new character. But once u r in the game, the screen starts fade to complete darkness. U can try the following: Hit "F9", that will make a fast save of the place u r. Then u exit the game, and load that save. Then the game will stay normal, and not fade to black.
BUT . . . this way, the game will even have more bugs then it normally has. U will not see any text and tutorial stuff.
Just delete the game, and re-install it a new. That . . . at least for me . . . solved this problem. After i re-installed it, it was working just fine, no fading to black when i made a new character!
So . . . just try to install it a new, ok? Try it

P.S. I had this problem with the version 1.0 , and a re-install solved it for me. I hope it does for u as well.
