It depends on the DVD-ROM.

My method:

1. Insert original in DVD-ROM.
2. Insert blank in burner.
3. Hit "copy".
4. Get a snack.
5. Play copy.

Simple, huh? Don't use on-the-fly though, that's BEGGING for a broken burn.
