Maybe your RAM goes bad... but then other program would run slow too... or Harddrive going bad... or mother board(IDE)....
Try running other program that also use the drive...like watching DVD movie.... music...(large) files transfer.. or try to burn something to a cd/dvd like Mp3 wiht other program..
if they all work fine then .. may be reinstall the program..
or install your drive to another computer.. and see how it does work
or /format c: /q ... and reinstall windows (hope u don't have to go that far)
Ohh.. another thing what game did you try to backup? have u try to backup other old game that you have done w/o any problem before? and see if u still can do it?
BTW that is RNM ? is it good? Where can i get it?
Hope some of these ideas help..

"Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne in the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all ...and in the darkness bind them."
"From the ashes a fire shall be woken; A light from the shadows shall spring
Renewed shall be blade that was broken; The crownless again shall be king."
