The reset/eject ribbon cable could possably be damaged. Take it back apart and use a multimeter to test for continuity at each point from one end of the cable to the other. I had a crappy V4 given to my by a guy that was doing just what your stateing. But this genious when putting his PS2 back together some how jammed a case screw right down the middle of it. I repaired it with some 30awg wire. If I get time I'll take a picture of it and post it here so you will have an idea of how I fixed this one. Or you could just buy a new one . I beleave they are fairly cheap. If this is even the problem.
