2 options I see are:
1. Sell it as already recommended by both TylerDurden and Bighap on Ebay, then apply money towards a v7 ps2, then go with a DUO chip, which was also recommended by TylerDurden.
or
2. You can try to use Ritek brand media and see if you have any luck with them, as they are very reliable and recommended media. Which will not be sucessfull if the laser is wore out and starting to go. Pointless to replace with an older laser, as with an older laser, you only invite more problems and waste time and money.
Option 1. is your best choice, as it will prove to be less headache and agravation for you. However the choice is yours.
