well it all depends. If ur burns on DVD-R or cdr are crap then they will both wear out the laser quicker than normal because the laser will be straining harder to re-read and correct errors. use high quality dvd-r and cdr discs at appropriate speeds and u should have a good burn.
BTW, if u have a liteon burner or dvd drive, use a program called kprobe or the new nero cdspeed to scan ur freshly burned cdrs. it shows u the c1 and c2 errors on the disc. if there is any c2 errors, throw the disc in the rubbish bin. If there are more than 20,000 c1 total, then u should try burning again at a different speed to see if u can reduce the errors.
If u dont have a liteon drive, use nero cd speed. this can only tell u c2 errors if u dont have a liteon. but still, it is better than nothing and if there are any c2 errors, u know what to do.
