Yep...You've pretty much answered your own question. Its an old ps2 with an old laser in it. You're doin the right thing with the cleaning disc. Try running it through dry about 3 times first. If no improvement run it through wet a few times and try again. Also you could try very carefully manually cleaning the laser lens with a Qtip and some lens cleaning alcohol.
Also you're using decent enough cdr's.....R they datalife or datalife plus, two different coloured write surfaces. I've found that plus are better ( blue write surface, similar to ps2 original cd's).
Also you are burning them slowly which is good. What software are you using to back up the games? I usually use CloneCD or Record Now to back up PS2 CD's and burn at 4 speed an they come out perfect. Wot r u usin?
