Charlie's Reply: You have a v7. So DMS3 or Messiah 2 will work. Both are fine chips - DMS3 does more by way of add-on applications and you pay more accordingly.
Moving on, about 3 weeks ago a friend of mine went, along with me, to that shop and bought a brand new ps2 v9 already modded with the messiah 2 pro v1.31( he paid 290 euros and got a copy of mgs: sons of liberty as a bonus). The guys there told us that v9 doesn't support the dms3 yet.
Question 2: Do you agree with them? anyone feels differently about that?Charlie's Reply: DMS3 v9 is not yet available.
To continue with, after he bought it we went back to my place to check it out. All the games, either ps1 or 2 originals or copies worked fine. He hasn't watched any dvds yet. Some of the games we tested were ps1 and ps2 (in CD format) copies that I had created by renting the game at the local videoclub and then burning it in my pc. I use clone cd version 3.0.9.1. clony xl for the protection identification (however, all of these are psx/libcrypt protected) and plextor plexwriter 40/12/40A.
Now, the jist of things. All the copies I created, either ps1 or ps2(cds) played fine afterwards (I use my friends newly bought ps2 to test them or for the ps1 copies my epsxe emulator as I don't have a psone.). I copy everything the same way, as described above. Also in the process, for the particular protection, I use these settings in clonecd : read subchannel data from data tracks, read subchannel data from audio tracks and don't repair subchannel data. I must have copied about 20 games in that same manner and 5 of them are ps2 cds. The only problems I encountered were once with rainow six: lone wolf where I couldn't burn its image to a cd and got it finally with an on the fly copy process and with rayman 1, which is the only one so far that I couldn't copy, not with an image process, not with an on the fly......
Lone wolf plays fine.
Question 3: Why did I get the problems with rayman and lone wolf? they are ps1 games and have the same protection and have been burned (or tried to be) in the exact same manner as all the rest.
Charlie's Reply: Sorry - no idea. it might be that you didn't have Abort on Read error set and there was a read error on the original carried over into the copy.
Furthermore, I rented and copied these ps2 games(which, from the start, were in cd format.) wizardry:summoner, mdk2: armageddon, pro evolution soccer 1, iss pro 2, f1 2002. In my friend's newly bought and modded v9 ps2 with the chip I say above (with the rest of my bubbling), all of them play fine. The question is, why won't sub rebellion play????????? That is a new ps2 (in cd) game I rented and copied a few days ago. It burned just fine with no problems and I was expecting it to work like a charm as the rest. Only it doesn't. In the 2 initial videos (of the manufacturing companies) it is very slow, then it goes in the start, options screen where it shows fine and then if I press start or options or anything it freezes. Always. It freezes like, not exactly freeze but it says loading, it shows loading but it loads forever.....(important note, the console doesn't make ant warning-disturbing sounds regarding this game in particular).
Question 4: Why doesn't it play?
Charlie's Reply: Once the game is playing, the modchip isn't doing anything. In these circumstances of remote diagnostics without hands on, it could be anything. There are CloneCD tutorials on this site and you should ensure that all the parameter setting are used as recommendd. Also the CD-R burn speed can be critical (see the thread "CD-R burning Speed".
To conclude with, I have bought several copied games from a guy I know, they're in dvd format, like resident evil dead aim etc. One of them was final fantasy X. That didn't play, at all. Though he had warned me about that one and gave it to me free just to test it. So I reordered it from him. We both thought it would work. My friend tested it. After about 15 minutes of gaming, if you play it from the start, in a particular video it freezes, completely. there is no way to skip the videos too, to proceed with the action. I contacted the guy that made it, again. I told him what's going on. He said that it was strange 'cause 10 other guys have it and don't have a problem with it. Anyway we agreed that he'll replace it with another game, he doesn't want to test it himself, he believes me. i said ok and when I mod mine (a v7), If it doesn't work in mine as well, crasjing at that same point, I'll just get it from someone else. If it does work in mine, I'll pay him, for the replacement game he will have given me in its place cause this didn't work. So......
Question 5: Why do you think it didn't work? Do you think it will work with mine? assuming that i'll place a messiah 2 pro v1.31 as well. Do you think it's modchip-v7-v9 issue?
Charlie's Reply: As per Q4 - without the offending item in hand it's impossible to tell for sure. Looks like a bad copy to me. It won't be the modchip - its job is to get the boot-up of the game done.
ps. another friend told me that his ps2 is new too, a v9, and he will place a messiah chip but when a final version comes out for v9 ps2s, implying in this way that a messiah 2 pro v1.31 is incomplete for a v9 ps2 right now.
Question 6: how do you feel about what he says? I don't buy it..........
Charlie's Reply: Messiah2 v1.33 is the latest v9 compatible chip that starts shipping this week.
Thanks for your replies everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
