O.K. I finished testing the first half of my ROMs (A-M) - so, here's the summary to the country protection problem:
1. Try to find (U)-ROMs where possible, e.g. "Soldiers Of Fortune" instead of "Chaos Engine".
2. Concerning the country protection, you can definitely check your ROMs with Gens (set to US machine), so you won't have to waste losts of CD-Rs in order to test them with SegaGen. For either a ROM has a country protection or not - Gens recognizes that. Sure, Gens and SegaGen are totally different emulators, but that's not for this protection thing.
3. Sadly, header editing only worked on two of the ROMs I had no (U) alternate to - "Aah! Harimanada" and "Donald starring in Maui Mallard" - so, it doesn't work for all (J)-ROMs like it was said earlier in this thread...
4. In some cases you might try hacked alternates from the GoodGen set - some of them have country protection removed.
5. And finally, according to my tests (A-M), these are the games that don't work with SegaGen:
- Australian Rugby League
- Chou Yakkyou Miracle Nine
- Devil's Course 3D Golf
- Dragon Slayer 2
- FIFA '98
- J.League Pro Striker '93
- J.League Pro Striker - Final Stage
- J.League Pro Striker - Perfect Edition
- Lord Monarch
- Mega-Q - The Party Quiz Game
Of course, there are some more that aren't compatible with SegaGen. But these are the ones that can't get cross the country protection. I will post the results of the second half later on...
