I just ordered me a PS 2 with Neo 2.2 + DVD Region X.

I was wondering whether I would be able to play NTSC games from the U.S. and Japan on that machine? The seller I ordered from told me that I would have to make backups of the NTSC games + patch them to get them to work on my console, is that true?
ANSWER: Assuming you have original games from US/Japan you can use CloneCD with a compatible reader and burner (needs RAW/DAO + 96 for protected games) to produce backups that will boot through Region X. You'll need a fully loaded scart lead to get colour from NTSC games.

I can't see the reason why they made a chip which allows one to make backups of his PAL games and play them while imported games like NTSC games are not supported.
ANSWER: They are supported

My seller also told me bout the messiah chip comin' in some weeks, which makes it possible to boot PAL & NTSC (backups as well), makes DVDs codefree + macro fix for copying to VHS and all this without any changing the discs. Has neone of you heard bout that chip and can tell me if it will have all deez advantages without any disadvantages?
ANSWER: The Messiah is vapourware so far as I'm concerned. I'm sure it's coming, but it's always just about to be released. Same with NEO4
