Installs are usually around $40-$60 depends on where you get it done and who you trust with your machine.
The reason why I say sell your v1 now is because at the moment your v1 still has "ebay value" because it works. If you install a modchip on it and use it till it burns out. Then you have a broken ps2 which wont sell for as much.
You can almost make your money back on a working ps2.
