You could, if you sold yours on EBAY and scraped up a few more bucks. Otherwise your gonna have a modded ps2 that will probably only work for a few months. Heck the dvd part may never work.
Try putting a dvd-r backup movie in it now. See how it plays before investing $$ on that old ps2.
