What speed did it fail at, out of curiosity? Anyhow, I don't know how to convert .nrg to .cdi but you can convert it to a .bin and .cue image using UltraISO. If you still insist on burning a .cdi image and you have some time on your hands you can then mount the .bin and .cue image to a virtual drive and then create a .cdi using Discjuggler. Not sure this method would produce a working disc but the image conversion is certainly possilble. Good luck and please post results if you manage to pull it off.
