Ok, you'll get a LOT of flak from people about the +R vs. -R issue. They are... roughly equivalent. While I prefer +R, many people prefer -R - and the only CLEAR area in which +R excels is set-top-box compatibility as regards EDITS made after the fact to your DVD. In that area, +R clearly wins hands-down, but in all other areas they're about equal.
NOW...
The original discs are, in fact, neither -R nor +R. They are pressed. They were never "burned" at all, but rather stamped out of a piece of plastic based on a glass master.
So it doesn't matter which you backup to. Older PS2's won't read +R reliably. PS2's with worn lasers won't read EITHER reliably.
