I don't know about the quality of the DVD-R which come with the drive but some people say that it isn't too good. Although I don't think it is this. Did you make an image of the game to your HDD first? If not, that will be your problem. PS2 games do not like being copied 'on the fly'. What tutorial did you follow? It may be that you did not do something correctly. By the way, RecordNow MAX is the best PS2 copying software. Download the demo at my site and install the PX Engine too (if it works with the demo version). I suggest you try and reburn the game and use a tutorial at my website @ www.mjpaul.freeserve.co.uk.
You could also try some different media (Those verbs would be a good place to start)
