There are really only two other options. One is a probel that I just had recently on a PS2. The cable going to the laser was not properly seated. There was a small brown portion on the socket side on the laser. This is underneath the cable. It popped out a little so the cable was not making proper contact. It could be something like this. It could also be a stray peice of wire, a solder ball, or one of a million things has created a bridge some where in the PS2. Check the BIOS really well to begin with. Blow the board off with compressed air. To many possibilties to know for sure what it is.
