Just a quickie.
U shouldn't be using awg30 for 3.5v or ground. U should use some awg23 multi strand wire for those.
Then use awg30 for all the signal connections.
As I said before, I've come across this problem myself. My advice is to remove the mod and get the PS2 under control in normal working operation, then reinstall with correct wire.
There is a check u could do. Try running a DVD movie on DVD-R in your PS2. The PS2 doesn't need to be modded to run these and it will tell you whether your laser is good enough to read them.
Also, the reason I am going on about the wire is that for some reason when magic is installed the laser runs slightly weaker than before so if u have installed using less than perfect wires U could be making it run a lot weaker than before the installation.
I don't think it's laser calibration because if your ps2 is noticing ps1 backups then the cd laser diode is working fine and it should also read ps2 cd backups.
If it was only dvd-r backups that weren't working then I would also suspect the laser but as it's also cdr PS2 backups then it is definitely an installation issue and I would advise a reinstalation using the correct wires.
Good luck!
