The problem is not starting or playing the game, the problem is that the non working cracks activate a custom protection, which results in all kinds of weird behaviour. Most important is that at some point with the bad exe, yours and all AI cars will crash and pile up no matter what you do, other weirdness has also been reported. All these problems do NOT happen with the working crack or the original. So if I was you I'd check to see if your mate doesn't have weird problems
