Your simptoms are very similar to either a blown fuse or a totally shot laser. Unless you have had trouble playing games and made several adjustments to the laser before it is probably not the laser. A fuse would be my number one guess. You can find fuse lists for all versions here. My second guess is that there are most likely bios pins bridged together. Even the smallest little parts touching cause throw things off into any number of different effects dpending on the ones linked. I have seen all of the above give the effects you are describing.
