1. Not too sure on this one

2. The 3 main chips (that are the best) are the Xodus/Matrix, x-ecuter 2 lite, and x-ecuter 2 pro.

The Xodus/Matrix modchip needs to be flashed. It is a no-solder chip and is pretty good. Only problem is that it sometimes slips out of place.

The x-ecuter 2 lite chip is what I'd recommend. It is pre-flashed, and very easy to solder. You also have a choice to use pogo-pins to make it a no-solder chip, but may cost extra.

The x-ecuter 2 pro is just like the x-ecuter 2 lite, but is not pre-flash and can have multiple bios (more than the x-ecuter 2 lite).

All these chips are re-flashable, so you can upgrade with newer/better bios as they come out. They can all have an on/off switch (easy to make external without drilling up holes).
