well, it's official - I have a messiah 2. Took the ps2 apart (first time ever trying that, very happy when it still worked when I put it back together
) and it's definitely a messiah 2 chip. So, looks like my cd laser is on the way out. I'll mess about with some different media and see if that will make any difference.
