I've heard that dvd-vcd's work. Its a DVD with vcd video burnt onto it. It requires the audio bit rate to be changed to 48kbps(vcd is 44.1kbps) You also need to create a dvd file out of them (.vob, .ifo, .bup). The process is here:

I'd test it out to be sure, but I am currently out of disks. A dvd-rw may be smart to try so you don't end up with a coaster.
