I would go with a -r burner like a Pioneer, for -r media is more popular and more widely supported by devices such as dvd players. I wouldn't say that one brand is more superior over the other when it comes to dvd players. I personally have a Toshiba(I have everything Toshiba) and it works flawlessly for what I need. Find a dvd player and check
