S E A R C H button & there are numerous threads that have asked similar questions to yours.
Almost daily, this forum gets asked the same question about BF1942 , so if you click the above link I'm sure if you read each post which offers you many suggestions / ideas, one will tickle your fancy.
However, what do you mean by "it doesnt work"..... Can you at least install the game from your backup, but it wont run the game when you click the desktop icon ?
