I searched and read several sites over the last two days and finally got it to work.

I had to uninstall everything related to NHL 2003. I used RegClearner 4.3 to even clean the registry. I had to delete from C:\My Documents\NHL 2003. I did a search on c:\ for NHL* and delated everything there.

I then loaded NHL 2003 again. After loaded i went to the directory where NHL 2003 loaded to. For me it was C:\Program File\EASports\NHL2003. In there there is a file called "filelist", i then added the line 1,1,RegSetup\RegSetup.exe and saveed it

I then deleted the file folder in C:\My Documents\NHL2003

I then ran from the Start --> Run and typed without quotes "REGSRV32 msdxm.ocx"

Then i went to gamecopyworld.com and downloded the NHL 2003 v1.01 no cd/Fixed.exe and then replaced the Original NHL 2003.exe file with the no CD version.

Ran the new NHL2003.exe file and got a white screen for about 10 seconds and then whammo "EA Sport, its in the game".

At this point i did something stupid and ran the patch from the official EAsports Website and got the message after trying to run the program after the downloadload "Please insert correct CD".

From Here i deleted the NHL2003 folder from C:\My Documents added the line back into "filelist" and then replaced the NHL2003.exe file again with the one from gamecopyworld no CD and ran the program and it still worked. and my vesion of the game is at 1.01. so the official pacth download still worked.

I did try the instructions from Gamecopyworld.com for the no cd patch which were

Install the game - Full Installation.
Apply the official NHL 2003 v1.01 Patch.
Replace the original NHL2003.EXE executable with the one from the Executable Archive.
Play the Game

but got error message either insert correct CD and nhl 2003.exe has caused an error in nhl2003.exe

Now i already had Windows media player 9 loaded. Changed my Regional setting to Englich and US. I checked that in Internet Explorer View --> Encoding --> and Auto select is unchecked.

I would like to thank all you put up solutions on several websites i have searched and this is a conglomeration of all the information. I do not know which issue specificly helped me in getting the game going but all this put together has worked. I think the key was uninstalling the game and cleaning every aspect of NHL 2003 off and starting from scratch.
