I personally have experienced a similar problem. If an image file is corrupt from some reason, Nero can lock up in various points during the burnprocess. I once burnt a music CD off a Nero image. I had 4 lockups, which resulted in coasters, until I re-ripped the image, with different settings, and then it worked.
I don't offer a solution to your problem, I just stress the previous point that a corrupt image can cause the problems you're experiencing.
