Did you use any crack for the original ? The expansion packs are in fact huge patches, so your installed version must be exactly what they expect or the install program goes sulk in a corner
Also, I don't know if Unleashed works with only the original sims installed, there are four other expansion packs, and at least one of these (hot date) needs another one (house party) installed to work.
