alot of people get on fine modding V2 ps2's but as I mentioned be prepared to adjust the laser before it reads dvdr's okay.

I was modding a version4 for a mate with a messiah chip recently and when it was fitted the ps2 wouldn't even look at dvdr ( movies or games) but with about an eighth of a turn of the dvd laser adjustment potentiometer and it'll now read anything no problems.

The alternative is when you mod the PS2 get a new ps2 laser unit at the same time and keep fingers crossed that it is set up okay for dvdr.

If you send the PS2 away to get modded then the place modding it will usually check and adjust the laser anyway as a matter of course so you'll have no worries there.

Has been a lot of stories on forums about lasers blowing when adjusted but I think that is just overkeen people turning them up too far. Adjust it dead slowly and only by tiny amounts each time until it reads dvdr.

A good test for you to try is dvd movies copied onto dvdr don't need a modded ps2 to work. get hold of one and try it in your ps2 and see if it runs. That'll tell you straight away if your laser needs attention or not without spending a penny.....

Goood luck, hope this helps. Let us know how it goes......
