OKay matey.

Firstly, when we say hardware dependant, we mean the burner itself. There is no evidence that your motherboard or pc setup makes any difference.
Secondly, it isn't just a burner's compatibility with CloneCD in RAW DAO mode that is important. It must also do correct EFM encoding to ensure a succesful safedisc2 burn. But, without knowing your burner make and model it is impossible to say.

here you will see the make and model of your drive

Now go to clonecd's website (####://www.elaborate-bytes.com) and look in the supported hardware section. If your drive has a check in the EFM column, then sd2 can be written by your drive.
As for what drives can burn sd2, check these listings and you'll see.
