Hmmm.....some things to discuss here!

@Indy

Firstly, it is not uncommon for copies only to work in certain readers. Have you tried any other SD2 titles? Many SD2 titles won't even run/install from originals on some cdroms. Max Payne is a classic. They had to release an update almost immediately as it wouldn't run from some drives.
To be sure it's SD2, use DeCode's Safedisc Analyser (see link above) and analyse the .exe files on the cd, as well as those found after install.
Also, you don't need subchannel data ticked in read....SD1 and SD2 doesn't use it.
And latest versions of SD2 check the ATIP of a cd to see if it's pressed silver or a cdr/cdrw. I.e. it will only run fromma cdrom....further narrowing down the drive options.

@TonyG

What is ProxLok?? Heard of Codelok/copylok, which can be decrypted with POXYLOK?? Gangsters 2 was codelok/copylok.
The error message is not comparable. That is wholely dependant on the software house NOT Macrovision's programming. If you don't believe me, try and run Black & White with no cd (SD2) and look for an error window/message........there isn't one. Now look at Max Payne, Clive Barker'[s undying etc etc....they're all different.

And finally, as for your "either they work 100%, or they fail 100%, or they only work in the burners they were burnt in".....any more options there mate??!!

SD2 is a strange beast. There is no true hard and fast rule other than having the original.
