Well, it should work this way :
1) Find out which cd is needed by the game and contains the copy protection
2) Make an image to the hard disk with daemon tools.
Try selecting "Game cd", if that doesn't work you might use ClonyXXl and generate a profile for CloneCD
3) Open that image with daemon tools latest version.
This works for me for at least battlefield1942, which is safedisc 2.80x
I don't need to switch on safedisc emulation, but you could try that if the game still refuses to work.
Also don't forget that many protections check the ATIP, so use an utility to hide that or don't use the cd in a cdwriter. Don't forget that Daemon Tools makes an extra cd drive letter, if you want to use it, most games need to be reinstalled from that extra virtual drive.
