I have differing thoughts on your one way or another argument. Yes, of course it gets worse with each new version, but in-depth knowledge of the latest unwrappers would make it a lot easier for them to find counter-measures against them. This way they have to do trial and error to see which new protection trick is most effective.
And also i do not think the people who develop these unwrappers share their knowledge with just about anyone. There are probably as many people out there who know how to actually write an unwrapper for the latest Safedisc/SecuROM from crap as there are people who
really understand what Einstein's theory of relativity is all about. And i would think these people know how to fool Macrovision by, lets say, setting up decoys or things like that. At least thats what i would do.
