It's worth it if you have a place to take it, the cost of mailing in a system having it worked on and sent back make it a very close call.
I had a system killed having it modded, it wasn't the modifiers fault - the cheaps were bad, luckily I had the right person who gave me a new system with a new chip once he got them in.
Oh, don't go by the Disk doesn't void your warranty, the warranty isn't long enough to care about if it voids it or not. so make it on how much you want to spend and wether or not you want to swap disk.
