The emulated drive I was talking about is a virtual CD-ROM-drive. If you have an image of a CD, you can tell the virtual drive to mount the image and use it as a CD-ROM. This has the advantage that you don't need change the CD's in your 'real' drive and it's faster, because all the data is on your HD. I don't think your problem has something to do with a master or slave connection or if your drive is connected to primary or secondary IDE-Channel. I don't know anything about zip-drives, so in this point I can't help you.
