Can't get either to work...

Ok, I have two computers on LAN.
box1 is 192.168.0.2,
box2 is 192.168.0.3.
Both talk to each other and Internet fine, through the gateway, 192.168.0.1.

box1 has NWN 1.21 installed with blaze666's fix. So does box2. Both are installed with same CD key (see sad tale of woe below).

I get "CD key is already in use on server" when trying to play a game between these two boxes. I modified HOSTS on both to point nwmaster.bioware.com to localhost, and pinged nwmaster.bioware.com on both to ensure they correctly point to 127.0.0.1, which they do.

I am starting NWN on box1, doing Multiplayer, then new. I login with bogus name and password, and get "cannot connect to master server". I continue, set up server on port 9990. Then, begin game with my character. I then go to box2, do Multiplayer, enter different bogus username/password, get "cannot connect to master server", load Internet game (tried LAN game too), do Direct Connect, enter 192.168.0.2:9990 as IP address, and game password, and get the message "CD key is already in use on the server". Other server information shows correctly (number of players, PnP setting, Module Name, etc.), so connection is good.

This means neither blaze's nor crakhead's fix work for me.

Does anyone have any ideas how to make this work, or why it isn't? I've been trying this since the 1.19 private server fix, and getting frusterated!

Thanks.

(Sad tale of woe: A friend of mine doesn't have a PC strong enough to play NWN, so he won't buy it. I have two that are, so want to get him over here to play it, so that he gets hooked, and buys a strong enough PC and NWN, so we can play over Internet. He can only make it here once a month, so only playing here isn't a good option. I'm not gonna buy another copy just to have him come over once, and maybe not even like it. So, I really do have good intentions!)
