Your drive needs to support RAW DAO-96 to get around the copy protections. I didn't see your drive listed on the elby list, but I did see some of it's sisters--16c and 16v. Neither of these supported dao-96. They did support SAO other DAO modes, but not the 96--this is required for subchannels. Here is the HP Section of the list:

You could try it in session at once, maybe--just make sure you close the disc when complete. Read as slow as you can, burn it slow as well. You might get lucky--but I wouldn't hold your breath.
I hate to say it, but it may be time to upgrade your burner anyway. Those are older models, and many burneres start to lose reliability after 2 years--especially if you use them a lot. I've burned out 2 in the past 3 years! Then again, I used the drive for regular backups when I ran a home business.
